[Update Jan ’13: Syslite Review Published]

If you follow this site at all, you will already know that a current pet peeve, and it is related to the season and recent time change, is task lighting on projects. Enter, Festool Syslite.

It’s a seasonal disorder, but its a thing.

The Festool Syslite is a former Product of Interest here on Topcoat Review, and is now a Tool of the Week for being an obvious and capable solution to an immediate problem. Because the Syslite is capable of being use as a corded or cordless light, has durable LED lamps that don’t break, and does not generate heat, it has proven to be a great addition to a professional painter’s toolbox.

Here, Todd uses the Syslite for additional lighting while hvlp spraying inside a cabinet box, and it was also used for inspection of the final sprayed finishes. This light makes me think that the future of lighting for painters is LED technology. It is not hot, which means on close inspection the light doesn’t raise surface temperatures, or burn the hands of the inspector. I’d like to see a manufacturer take the LED concept for task lighting, and run with it. Fast.

    Hey Scott,
Love my Syslite and use it all the time, lately I notice it needs to be recharged more often. I only get about 20-30 minutes on a charge. Any suggestions?

    • Scott Burt says:

Hmmm…a few. 1. Use it as a corded lite whenever you can so that it is plugged in, charging, and you can use it. 2. Buy another Syslite so that you can split the burden between two, and compare a new one with an older one. 3. Buy a Festool drill so that you can use the beefier 15 or 18 volt battery packs on your syslite. And, finally, there is a new Sys Torch out…well, almost out, we have been field testing it for a few weeks.
