Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas was a great venue for the show, because it provided plenty of space for the educational seminars, the manufacturer trade show, and ample opportunities for social networking with people from all aspects of the paint industry.
We were happy to hook up with the Blogging Painters gang to talk shop over food and drinks. Chris, Heidi and Tommy were all over the event, and I am looking forward to following their blogs to see the event through their eyes.
That being the case, we won’t attempt to cover the event on this site. However, I did want to share one cool part of our experience in Vegas, which was our tour of the Festool Training Center in Henderson, just a few minutes from Vegas. We had visited another Festool Training Center in Indianapolis last fall for a workshop along with a group of paint contractors from around the US and Canada.
Very inspiring to see a manufacturer sponsored, state of the art training facility geared to contractors. Todd and I learned alot from the Festool Trainers, Steve and Brian. We spent alot of time with them during the week, talking shop and identifying connections between woodworking and painting/finishes. Much information was exchanged and a good time had by all, and we might have seen some “things”. I hope other paint industry manufacturers will take notice and consider the value of providing educational opportunities, in the form of hands on training, to contractors.
We were happy to speak with so many paint contractors in Vegas, many of whom were familiar with our written work in APC magazine as well as our online work here and elsewhere, and we look forward to keeping the social networking going with everyone online.
