Tool of the Week: Festool DX93E Detail Sander

Festool DX93E Detail Sander

DX93E hits the field for testing...

The devil is in the details…

Or used to be, anyways. Our colleagues over at Maximum Painting have referred to sanding as a production killer, in the context of hand sanding on interior work. We could not agree more, and we see the problem as a global one across interior and exterior painting.

This week, we hauled the Festool DX93E detail sander into the field to solve some crevice sanding problems on our current exterior wood restoration project in which we have done a low pressure chemical strip on the home, and are cleaning up some of the more intricate details using abrasives.

Detail sanding can be a monumental time suck in preparing surfaces for paint. We hate losing time. It appears that Festool is of that same mindset, which is highly encouraging. We fantasize about process enhancements that can turn tasks that take hours into just minutes, and in a way that is easier and more pleasurable for the technician. Better tools usually drive the process improvements that make a more efficient system. This tool is built for both paint removal and surface preparation for finishing. The testing will continue in both interior and exterior situations. Stay tuned.
